National Women’s History Month is an annual celebration for the length of March to recognize and appreciate contributions from women throughout history. Keep reading for the featured events occurring this month at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.

Dish It Up: Women’s History Month

12 to 1 p.m. March 5 | Jackie Gaughan Multicultural Center, OASIS Lounge

Since 1995, presidents have issued a series of annual proclamations designating the month of March as “Women’s History Month.” These proclamations celebrate the contributions women have made to the United States and recognize the specific achievements and vital role that women have made throughout American history in a variety of fields.

Dish it Up is an interactive conversation where individuals can share their personal views, learn from others and engage in civil discussions concerning current events, topics affecting students’ lives, UNL, and national/international happenings.

This event is co-hosted by the Office of Academic Success & Intercultural Services (OASIS) and the Gender & Sexuality Center.

Women’s History Month Lunch

11 a.m. to 2 p.m. March 6 | East Campus Dining Center

Celebrate women with a special lunch at the East Campus Dining Center.

Lunch is included with meal plans or pay guest prices.

Women’s History Month Movie Night

5:30 p.m. March 7 | Mary Riepma Ross Media Arts Center

A double-feature screening of two acclaimed films by award-winning director and screenwriter Greta Gerwig. LADY BIRD (2017) screens at 5:30 p.m. followed by LITTLE WOMEN (2019) at 7:30 p.m.

This event is free and open only to UNL students, staff, and faculty with Event Pass. Admission includes one small popcorn and drink, too.

Co-hosted by UPC Nebraska and the Mary Riepma Ross Media Arts Center.

The Power of Husker Women: A Night of Celebration

5:30 p.m. March 7 | AKRS Champions Club

Celebrate the power of Husker women. The evening event will feature a panel including Olympic gold medalist Jordan Larson (’08), Dean Tiffany Heng-Moss (’95, ’97, ’00), Dr. Colleen Jones, and Katie Nieland (’08, ’20). The recipients of the Chancellor’s Outstanding Contribution Awards will also be honored by Chancellor Rodney D. Bennett. In addition, the Chancellor’s Commission on the Status of Women will recognize the Women of Service Award recipients.

The cost to attend is $20 for students and $40 for alumnae, faculty, and staff, and includes a complimentary drink and dinner.

This is a collaborative event between the Nebraska Women’s Leadership Network and the Chancellor’s Commission on the Status of Women.

International Women's Day

11 a.m. to 1 p.m. March 8 | Jackie Gaughan Multicultural Center, Room 302

Join the Kawasaki Reading Room for bracelet making while you enjoy fresh tea and mochi.

Women of Courage, Character and Commitment Celebration

5:30 to 7:30 p.m. March 20 | Carolyn Pope Edwards Hall, Room 227

An evening social celebration to recognize women from campus and the Lincoln community who made positive impacts through professional, personal, mentoring, or peer relationships.

Students, staff, and faculty will be publicly recognized with the annual ‘Women of Courage, Character, and Commitment’ awards. View the 2024 Honorees.

Night of Listening: History of Women's Voting Rights

4 to 5 p.m. March 25 | Nebraska Union, Chimney Rock Room

Learn about the Women's Suffrage movement and the 19th amendment that guaranteed women the right to vote. Attendees will also dialogue on current voting rights and current issues related to women and civic engagement.

Speakers include:

  • Dianne Bystrom, Director of Communications for the Nebraska League of Women Voters
  • Rachel Gibson, Vice President-action for the Nebraska League of Women Voters

Pre-registration is encouraged.

Women of Color Mixer

6 to 7:30 p.m. April 3 | Nebraska Union, Regency Suite

A casual mixer to connect all with a greater network in an affirmative community. All UNL women of color are invited.

Free to attend. Light refreshments will be served.
