UNITE powwow honors graduates and celebrates traditions
On Saturday, April 22 the University of Nebraska Inter-Tribal Exchange (UNITE) hosted a powwow on the Nebraska Union green space to honor graduates. Hundreds of community members and Nebraska affiliates gathered to watch traditional dances and socialize.
“Not only are powwows a social gathering but [they’re] also a celebration,” said Angelica Solomon, treasure of UNITE. “We invite graduates of all levels to come out and celebrate their accomplishment.”

Battle of the DJs brings nightlife atmosphere to campus
On Tuesday, April 11, the Office of Academic Support and Intercultural Services (OASIS) hosted Battle of the DJs in the Centennial Room in the Nebraska Union as part of the JGMC/OASIS Week festivities.
Students danced, played games, enjoyed food and socialized while DJ Mengistu and the UNL DJ Club played and mixed tracks. The evening also included a performance from the UNL Hip Hop Dance Club.

Mandala Lounge unveiling kicks off JGMC & OASIS Week
On Monday, April 10, staff at the Jackie Gaughan Multicultural Center unveiled new canvas prints in the Mandala Lounge during the JGMC & OASIS Open House event.
A snapshot of the original culture center of 1950 flanks the left side of the gallery while photos from events like Lunar New Year, Dish It Up, the step show and InvAsian tell the story of the building and its associated programs. An image from the construction of the Jackie Gaughan Multicultural Center in 2009 completes the symmetrical pattern.

InvAsian showcases talents, celebrates diversity
Nebraska students and others from surrounding campuses joined the members of Sigma Psi Zeta Sorority, Inc. for InvAsian Under the Sea on Saturday, March 11. The sold-out talent show featured dance groups, singers, instrumentalists and strollers.
Sigma Psi Zeta required each of the 13 performers to submit a video audition to compete. Performers came not only from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln but from the University of Iowa, the University of Nebraska at Kearney (UNK) and the community as well.

Our Nebraska celebrates inclusion
Our Nebraska, a series of events held March 6-10, gave students from all backgrounds the opportunity to discuss what it means to be diverse and how to create an inclusive campus and community.
Previously known as the Empowerment Forum, Our Nebraska offered events throughout an entire week rather than in a concentrated day-long seminar. Activities were sponsored by Student Affairs and the Office of Academic Support and Intercultural Services (OASIS) with co-sponsorship from the Diversity Council.
