Husker GrowGuided Reflection on Work
What is HUSKER GROW?
Higher education offers more high-impact practices today than ever before through opportunities like on-campus employment and highly engaged leadership positions. This program uses brief, structured conversations between student employees and their supervisors to help make the learning from student employment more "visible" to the student.
The conversations focus on four key questions about what students are learning and how they are applying their learning.
- How is this job fitting in with your academics?
- What are you learning here that's helping you in school?
- What are you learning in class that you can apply here at work?
- Can you give me a couple examples of things you've learned here that you think you'll use in your chosen profession?
HUSKER GROW Learning Outcomes
- Ability to work in a team
- Communication skills (both oral and written)
- Problem-solving skills
- Develop a strong work ethic
- Interpersonal skills
- Appreciation of other world views
- Analytical and quantitative skills

Working alongside U.S. Secret Service officers, I got a chance to prove my mettle and use skills that I first learned working at the Unions. In truth I knew going into this work experience that I was ready because of the incredible mentors who helped me along the way.Jonathon Nord Past Union Board President, summer intern for the 2016 Republican National Convention
