Student Spotlight: "What If I Don't Like Seafood?"

“The world is your oyster, now go find your pearl.” I would hear this cliché phrase from my English teacher at least once a week and to be frank, I didn’t understand the big deal that everyone was making. I was expecting college to be four years of my life in which I’ll meet people from all over the world and experience lots of new things, but I figured it would just be like a bigger version of high school with harder courses and added responsibilities. Boy was I wrong, because the second I stepped onto UNL, the world did become my oyster.

Dare to Care Encourages Students to Collect Food for the Lincoln Community

This November, the Center for Civic Engagement hosted its 12th Dare to Care food drive. Donations to Dare to Care benefit not only the Food Bank of Lincoln, but also OpeN Shelf the current resource for Nebraska students who do not have money to purchase food and other goods. 

Women's Week Informs, Empowers and Inspires Action

More than 400 students, staff, faculty and community members participated in Women’s Week events. Hosted March 5 -18, 2016, the event included movie screenings, panel discussions, art exhibits, keynote lectures, athletic events and technology centered event – all centered around the mission of empowering women.

Nebraska Define American RSO Wins National Award

The Define American Chapter at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln received the College Chapter of the Year award from the national organization in December.

Conference Promotes Exploring Masculinity

For the second year in a row, the Men at Nebraska Conference invited conversation around the roles masculinities play in men’s’ lives. Held April 8, the conference included a short film screening, breakout sessions, a poster exhibition and a keynote address by Dr. Eric Lueshen.

Student organization honored for raising $25,000 for suicide prevention

Out of the Darkness, a student organization now in its second year at Nebraska, was honored by the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP) for raising more than $25,000 and being a Top 10 Fundraising Walk in 2016. The campus group ranked fifth among campuses nationwide. An award was presented to Nebraska representatives at the 2017 AFSP Chapter Leadership Conference in Orange County.

Student Impact Awards 2016

On April 13, Student Involvement hosted the Student Impact Awards, a program to honor students who have made significant contributions to their student organization and the University of Nebraska-Lincoln campus. In addition to highlighting individual contributions, the awards also recognized student organizations that have made significant impact during the 2015-2016 academic year.

On Thursday, Jan. 26, the Office of Academic Support and Intercultural Services hosted a Lunar New Year celebration for the University of Nebraska-Lincoln campus community.

Goldberg, Knopik Named Outstanding Student Leaders

Sydney Goldberg of St. Joseph, Missouri and Nicholas Knopik of Lincoln received UNL’s 2016 Outstanding Student Leadership Awards. Juan Franco, vice chancellor for student affairs, presented the awards during an April 22 ceremony at the Van Brunt Visitors Center.
