Getting to Know Our Global Neighbors

Our students come from all backgrounds and walks of life, but one group with a most unique perspective is international students. Hailing from 129 countries, these students enrich the UNL community with an array of languages, variety of cultural experiences and diverse views.

Appreciating Asian Pacific American Heritage

The month of April marked the celebration of Asian Pacific American Heritage Month. To commemorate the event, the Office of Academic Support and Intercultural Services (OASIS) co-sponsored art and cultural speakers, a talent show and a samurai dinner event.

Digital Signs the Future of Residence Hall & Dining Hall Promos

As of August 1, all promotional messages in the residence halls and dining centers will move to digital signs. Table tents will no longer be allowed as a means of promoting sustainable practices and reducing paper consumption.

New Activities Provide Excitement for International Welcome

The arrival experience for many international students coming to the U.S. for the first time can be full of the unknown – new language, new culture, new customs, new faces, new academic environment and more. This year the international welcome team piloted increased efforts to welcome students as soon as they arrive in Lincoln.

Homecoming Gets a Running Start with a 5K

A sunny sky and gentle breeze made for perfect race conditions as more than 300 runners gathered north of Harper Hall at 4 p.m. on Sat., Sept. 26. Sponsored by Campus Recreation and the Residence Hall Association, the Homecoming 5K race loop followed the Billy Wolff Trail and returned to Harper Hall for the finish.

Fresh Thinking Helps Conference Services Launch New Website

Like many campus entities, Conference Services, a department within University Housing, needed to update an existing website into the 4.1 template in the fall of 2015. However, the team also knew the current website wasn’t meeting their clients’ needs. Rather than roll forward their current website and frustrations, the team committed to fresh thinking and a redesign.

Students Celebrate Thanksgiving in the Dining Halls

Traditionally, Thanksgiving is a time when families gather together. To give students the opportunity to enjoy the holiday with their friends on campus, University Dining Services annually serves the traditional feast before the Thanksgiving break.

Student cooking competition inspires delectable dishes

On Mar. 10, Campus NightLife hosted Foodie Fest, an event that combined a “Chopped” cooking competition with meal preparation demonstrations from Dining Services and a food drive for the Huskers Helping Huskers Pantry+.

Four teams competed in the cooking competition. At the start of the three rounds, hosts gave team members four ingredients to include in the dish they created. Campus NightLife also provided other ingredients. Teams had to create an idea for their dish, cook and plate it within the 30-minute time limit.

Blogs share the story of wellness

No matter the subject, students seek resources to help them make informed decisions –that’s why several departments in Student Affairs have taken to blogging. The online platform easily allows departments to share personal stories, tips and tricks directly with Nebraska students.

The blog topics vary, but together the stories promote a campus-wide culture grounded in a multi-dimensional model of wellness.
