Attend a Farmer's Market
Just a short walk from campus, pick up fresh produce in season and browse fall-themed crafts, snacks and goods – all while supporting local farmers and artisans at the final Haymarket Farmer's Market October 15. Check out the Facebook page for more details.
Sunday Farmer's Market at College View
This weekly market takes place each Sunday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and runs through October 31. Stop by for more seasonal treats, inventive fall-themed baked goods and more.
Explore the Arts & Museums
LUX Center Festive Fall workshops
Unlock your inner artist and try creating collages with glass, a unique art form that can create gorgeous, shining pieces at this fall workshop October 14. The center also provides painting, clay and other workshops throughout the year.
There's an entire cultural side of Lincoln that can be easily missed when you're caught up in the daily grind. Visit any (or all) of these local museums to see fantastic art, learn about state history or improve your knowledge on a niche subject matter.
Enjoy the fall colors
If you need a quick escape from the city, join Outdoor Adventures for a day of hiking around Platte River State Park. With 14 miles of trails to explore, this area offers a chance to relax for a day and unwind from the week. Check out scenic views of the Platte River as you hike along dirt, tree-covered trails. Lunch will be provided along with pleasant conversation and a great group of fellow hikers. Sign up by October 17.
Autumn is officially underway and Lincoln has several great outdoor spots for you to savor the gorgeous fall colors throughout October. Capture the fall colors & enjoy a picnic at these 6 picture-perfect spots.
Take a spin on the local bike trails to feel the breeze of cooler fall air, watch as the trees change color, and hear the crunch of the fallen leaves under your tires. Need a bike? Rent one from the Outdoor Adventures Center's Bike Shop or use BikeLNK for short-term rides.
Catch a Movie
This on-campus spot is inexpensive and convenient for seeing numerous arthouse films, documentaries, short films and other cinematic events that don't always make it on the big screen. Those looking for cultural and indie films will always find something worthwhile at the Ross.
For classic blockbusters and a traditional moviegoing experience, look no further than any of the Marcus theaters in Lincoln. Each of these theaters offer leather reclining seats and food to order right to your chair, among additional amenities. The 11th & P street grand cinema location is a close walk from campus, easily accessible if you're living in the dorms or downtown.
This theater location is special for its regular screenings of "The Rocky Horror Picture Show". If you've never attended one of these screenings, they involve costumes, inside jokes, yelling at the screen and other unique customs you won't see with any other movie. You can also rent out the 25-foot screen to play video games with friends, on almost any console system.
Get ready for Halloween
Halloween tends to sneak up on even the best of us. If you don't want to be stuck without a costume, it's time to get to planning. Secondhand shops are friendlier to your wallet and the environment. Browse these local thrift stores to build your own unique, DIY costume.
Along with picking up some carve-worthy pumpkins, many of the pumpkin patches around Lincoln have additional attractions, including fall food and drink, hayrides, mazes, haunted houses, and other games.
