As dusk set in over the University of Nebraska–Lincoln Aug. 15, more than 100 new Huskers stood near Broyhill Fountain, chatting and laughing while awaiting the start of the Big Red Welcome Late-Night History Tour.

Tuesday, August 15, 2023 School spirit welcomes new Huskers to residence halls

Music, banners and lots of red welcomed the newest Huskers to the University of Nebraska–Lincoln campus this week. Nearly 5,000 moved into their new homes during a four-day period, ringing in the 2023-24 academic year.

This week, meet Nathan Hé. As an undergrad from Chongqing, China, Hé got involved across campus — from joining RSOs to finding opportunities for hands-on learning. Now as the assistant director of alumni engagement for the Nebraska Alumni Association, he’s creating more opportunities for alumni and students to engage with each other and find communities that are important for them.

Discover the first LGBTQA+ historical marker in Nebraska

The state historical marker – the first to honor an openly LGBTQA+ person – was installed in fall 2022, outside of Andrews Hall at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln. Dr. Louis Crompton was an LGBTQA+ advocate who taught UNL’s first course on LGBTQA+ studies and advised the first LGBTQA+ group on campus.
