[KLKN] Students and staff at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln spent a couple hours volunteering Tuesday afternoon during the Center for People’s food distribution.

The MLK Week Planning Committee is encouraging the campus community to serve others through volunteering with local nonprofit agencies during the week.

Giving back to the community is a great way to learn through hands-on experiences — and feel good while doing it. While there are a number of ways to give back on campus by donating to spots like Husker Pantry, Lavender Closet or Career Closet or serving as a tutor or ambassador for your college, there are several spots you can volunteer off-campus as well.

[Daily Nebraskan] As the elections near, new voter identification laws in Nebraska mean students will need to obtain and bring a form of photo ID to the polls in order to cast their ballot. Husker Vote Coalition has been involved in mobilizing University of Nebraska-Lincoln students to vote.

As president of Medical students United with Neighbors across America, Hannah Ray is helping further their mission of providing culturally-specific foods to immigrant and refugee families around her hometown of Lincoln.

Any basketball career starts with the first basket, and a University of Nebraska–Lincoln Campus Recreation program is helping area youth make their first shot.

This year’s University of Nebraska–Lincoln homecoming week runs Oct. 23-28 and will carry the theme “Through These Gates: 100 Years of Saturdays at Memorial Stadium.”
