On Tuesday, Oct. 3, Office of Academic Success and Intercultural Services (OASIS) co-sponsored a late night Dish It Up session facilitated by the Mexican-American Student Association (MASA).

Students led the conversation around topics like colorism, identification within Hispanic heritage: Hispanic, Latinx, bi-racial, etc., and the demographics of Hispanic heritage countries.

“I believe it’s a genuine conversation that needs to happen, especially in the Latinx and African-American community,” said freshman Kendyl Parks. “We face similar struggles as marginalized communities, yet there can be tension between the two communities. I am interested in bridging that gap.”

Weekly Dish It Up discussions provide students an ongoing forum to dialogue about cultural and societal issues. Regularly scheduled sessions take place at noon in the OASIS Student Lounge at the Jackie Gaughan Multicultural Center.
