The Willa S. Cather Dining Complex at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln will begin serving meals after June 4. The three-story complex replaces the CPN Dining Center that will be razed along with Cather and Pound Residence Halls in the next year.

The new dining center, located on the second floor of the building at 530 N. 17th St., offers seating for 500 and two private dining rooms available by reservation. Multiple meal stations will offer dining variety, including a teppanyaki grill and woodstone-baked pizzas.

The Cather Complex primarily will serve students living in the Eastside Suites, University Suites, Knoll Residential Center and Neihardt Hall. However, all students with a meal plan may visit any dining center. Guests also can eat in the dining centers at guest meal prices.

The first floor of the Cather Complex will offer additional grab ’n go options for students in a hurry. The Husker Heroes sandwich shop and a C-Store offering entrees from Eat.Fit.Go. will open at the beginning of the fall semester.

In addition to new dining facilities, the complex offers a multi-purpose event space with built-in A/V and customizable LED lighting. Catering will be available from University Housing Dining Services.

“We’re never had a flexible space of this size,” said Tony Rathgeber, assistant director of Conference Services. “The Unions are busy along with other spaces on campus. This will give us the opportunity to accommodate groups in ways we couldn’t before.”

University Housing and residential student organizations will get priority on space reservations and envisions using the facility for large-scale staff and volunteer trainings, programming events, hall government activities, fundraisers, international student programming, Learning Communities activities and more.

Conference Services says the International Thespian Festival will be the first large group to use the event space, June 19-24.
